Corrugated Board Properties

Moisture content ranges from 6.5-9.5%. If the moisture is below a certain limit, it will cause the corrugated board to crack; if the moisture is above this level, it will reduce the compressive strength of the board. Several properties of corrugated board can be measured. Some of these include:

Edge Squeeze Test It measures the force per unit width and predicts the compressive strength of the Box. The unit is KN/m or lb/inch.

Bursting Strength The pressure required to rupture corrugated cardboard. The unit is KPa or lb/inch2.

Carton compressive strength directly measures the performance of corrugated boxes. Reported in kgf or N.

Flat Crush Test It measures the stiffness of the groove and reports it in KPa.

Bending resistance

impact resistance

Cushioning, shock absorption

tear resistance

Gram weight The weight per square meter of any material is called grams. in grams per square meter

Corrugated cardboard is anisotropic; many of its properties are highly directional. For example, edge crush, flexural stiffness, tensile strength, and surface properties will vary depending on the orientation of the grooves and the machine direction of manufacture.
